Come and enjoy the delights of Totnes from The Great Grubb Bed & Breakfast

Totnes is situated within the heart of the South Hams and surrounded by natural beauty. Originally an Elizabethan market town, Totnes has acquired a famous reputation for being a melting pot of old and new. Its historical routes have left the town scattered with architectural gems, including its very own Norman castle, open to the public all year round. The river Dart runs through Totnes linking it with the picturesque fishing town of Dartmouth. You can explore this beautiful river by boat trip and experience its wild life en route to Dartmouth.

With Dartington College of arts situated on the edge of Totnes, the town has a vibrant buzz that accompanies most university towns. Dartington Hall offers a unique scene of music, dance and theatre, including world, jazz and classical. Performances can be viewed at the hall for minimal costs, and even infiltrate the town itself from time to time.

Both the College and Hall are set amongst majestic landscape gardens on the Dartington Estate. Open to the public all year around, the gardens were lovingly restored by the Elmhurst's in the 1920s, and are currently maintained by the Dartington Trust.

The Elizabethan market, held every Tuesday, keeps tradition alive, as town dwellers dress-up in period costume and sell unique crafts typical of the era.
